Game: Faded

Group Members: Grace, Winnie, April, Jason

This is a group project for our unity class. In this project, we are challenged to create a 3D first-person point of view walking simulation game. We worked as a group of 4 and we are given a total of 3 weeks to complete this project.

In our game “Faded”, players will wake up in a strange place, feeling lost. This is a space where everything is in a weirdly pale white color and a semi-transparent material. Players will be able to proceed by finding the correct triggering objects in each room through hints, and by triggering the designated object, certain memory of the character will be retrieved. There will be a total of 4 spaces, each representing the different stages of the character. After retrieving the memories from all rooms, the sound of an electrocardiogram will emerge, revealing the fact that a character is actually an old man at the end of his time on a hospital bed. All the triggering objects and the memories he retrieved are his most cherished moments in the span of his life, and the entire game is the last recall of his life.

Wow love that aesthetic! The colors and materials you choose really helped to further express your idea of staying within a dream. The pictures on the wall was a bit creepy for me at first, but would fit in to your theme somehow. And i like the ending of waking  up in a hospital, which just gave sense to the whole experience. Each screenshot could be a desktop picture XD

It's so smart to play with the model texture! It's the most creative but yet smart way I've ever seen on making the VFX! Since your game scene looks absolutely gorgeous, I wonder could you make the UI and text more polished too to match with the models.

I like the concept and graphic style of this game. I am personally very interested in the projects presenting the form or experience of "life" so this project catches my eyes. Reminds me that I once went to the museum of the Holocaust in D.C. and there was an exhibition in which they build a little house inside the museum and re-presenting the life of Jews. The audience can walk through and get to know the story of one certain family by observing the rooms. Adding more details would be interesting!

I really love how the shaders changed according to the status of the character. Also good job at placing the instructions one by one.

This is a great game I love the way you incorporated the story into the physical setting of the house and the whole thing looks great

The game graphic looks smooth and environment set up is nice. I like that your team put the narrative text on the transparent wall, it makes the game play more subtle. I would also suggest you guys to add some interactive elements to the items in the room. Great work!

I think aesthetic part of the game is beautiful, especially when I changing the perception lanes.  Also the topic is very deep and making us think as we walking toward end of the story. The only thing I wish is to have more clues or key elements in each room that maybe players can pick up or interact with, so it can be more relative to the player. After all, I think this game has many potentials and sends out deep message.

I like the play experience of this game that I need to decipher my true identity by reading those messages on the wall. The more message I read the more I curious about where I am and why there are messages on the wall. The ending is unexpected to me. Since I had a good life, I think that ending is happy!

I really like your storyline and the aesthetic choice. The whole game is just so beautiful and suitable for the theme. It really does feel like I am walking though a memory lane with the nostalgic settings, and when each room becomes transparent, it's like a nice little surprise that I didn't expect, which is really pretty. The whole story line is really touching too. Love the poetic quality about your project, and I think you can push this even more!

Love the dreamy aesthetics you have going on in the game! Also, I find the flow of the game really clever, how object gives hidden message on the walls, and also keeping the scenes kind of all in one feels like the player is stuck inside her mind. One thing I wish is that the ending has some kind of a resolution, either bringing player back to the start or showing some text indicating.

Great job!

I love the story, progression in the game, and music. The end is very eerie and a nice subtle ending. In the last room with the marble columns I did not find any hints or messages I just walked to the door to finish the game. I think the hints need to be more noticeable in this room. Lastly, the player is too short which makes other objects seem huge. Otherwise, great job!

This game is so beautiful! The music is so nostalgic and your color palette looks astonishing! I wonder how you made this glass effect? It looks very at the topic of memory, dream, and death. Also, the beginning and ending foggy background is amazing! It’s so sad to hear the main character dies in the end. The second room with the upside-down office reminded me about Alice in wonderland.

When I played I accidentally fell, but couldn’t reload, so maybe for future development, you can add the menu button or the quit button. And that also can be in the ending scene. But honestly, I like the way it is right now when you hear the sound and the black screen representing death. Very powerful!

The transparency and the color palette of the scenes remind me of the Disney film Coco! It really goes well with the concept of memories and looking back on life :>
